Spravodajskú komunitu USA tvorí 18 organizácií. Na jej čele stojí Úrad riaditeľa národnej spravodajskej služby (ODNI), ktorý je koordinačným a riadiacim orgánom. Samostatné postavenie má Ústredná spravodajská služba (CIA). Ďalšie služby pôsobia v rámci jednotlivých rezortov. Deväť agentúr má ministerstvo obrany – Vojenská spravodajská agentúra (DIA), Národná bezpečnostná agentúra (NSA), Národná geopriestorová spravodajská agentúra (NGA), Národný prieskumný úrad (NRO) a spravodajské prvky piatich služieb ministerstva obrany – pozemných síl, námorníctva, námornej pechoty, letectva a vesmírnych síl. Sedem služieb je v gescií ďalších ministerstiev a agentúr – ministerstva energetiky, ministerstva vnútornej bezpečnosti, ministerstva spravodlivosti, úradu boja proti drogám, ministerstva zahraničných vecí a ministerstva financií.
